The Virtual Herts 10K and Half Marathon

Sunday 10 October 2021

The HERTS 10K and Half Marathon is one of our flagship fundraising events, attracting hundreds of runners and walkers every year and raising valuable funds to support our services across west Herts and Bucks, which in the current climate are needed now more than ever. Join in and support us in continuing to grow the success of the event, now in its 16th year!

We’ve taken the difficult decision to keep the 2021 HERTS 10K in a virtual format. We know you love the buzz of the event and the sense of community spirit that comes from running en masse. But we believe there are too many risks to hosting a mass-participation event this autumn.

  • It takes a year of planning for us to host a HERTS 10K to be proud of (we only have about two months now!)
  • We know some people are understandably nervous of coming together in big groups.
  • Coronavirus cases are rising and more people are self-isolating; that creates uncertainty around sign ups.
  • The costs of hosting a mass-participation event are high; we can’t afford to take risks.
  • With seasonal pressures on the NHS as winter approaches, we can’t guarantee a mass gathering in autumn could go ahead.

We hope you’ll understand the reasons behind our decision. Please support local families and safeguard the future of the HERTS 10K by signing up this year. With your help we can bring it back in all its glory for 2022.

The virtual event will start on Sunday 10 October 2021. We're encouraging you to set off on your desired distance on Sunday morning, choosing a route that suits you – challenge yourself to some hills, or pace around a flat path, the choice is yours. However, if you’re unable to complete your chosen distance in one go, or make the Sunday date, you will have the opportunity to complete the event over the course of the following week.

Fundraise for Rennie Grove

While there's no sponsorship required to take part, we would encourage all participants to raise a minimum amount of £57. Simply set up a JustGiving page here and share it with your family and friends to sponsor you. Alternatively, you can set up a Facebook fundraiser, or you can make a personal donation instead. All funds raised will enable Rennie Grove nurses to provide specialist care and support for local adults and children with a life limiting illness.

For example: £57 could fund 2 hours of specialist nursing care in a patients home.

And of course every pound raised above that can help fund additional hours of specialist nursing care.

£100 could fund two Family Support Sessions for a bereaved child enabling us to offer them support when they need it most.

£300 could fund the cost of a series of six one-to-one counselling sessions with a Family Support Services counsellor, helping families to cope with illness and bereavement.

£1,260 could buy a syringe pump – a piece of specialist medical equipment used by our Hospice at Home nurses to help make patients’ final days more comfortable. They are a vital part of giving terminally-ill patients the choice to be cared for at home, if that is their wish.
