Student consultancy scheme supports retail & trading team

Colleagues in our retail & trading team have recently completed a student consultancy project with sixth formers from Berkhamsted School.

The Student Consultancy is a programme of learning and development activities developed by Oxford University’s Careers Service, linking students to local businesses and community organisations.

After learning about the scheme, our retail & trading team submitted a brief for support on new ways to recruit employees to our charity shops and how the organisation can engage with the younger generation via social media.

The group of four students then spent two school terms researching, planning and writing their response to the brief, before presenting it to a team from Rennie Grove’s retail department.

Sarah Gaywood, Ecommerce Manager at Rennie Grove Hospice Care, says:

“Working with the students from Berkhamsted sixth form has been a great experience for us that has provided us with different perspectives on a real business challenge. We’re grateful to the students for volunteering their time and committing so much thought and energy to the project. We were really impressed by their professionalism and dynamic approach to both the project and the presentation they gave to share their recommendations.

“Projects like this enable us to engage with our local communities and bring fresh perspectives to the way we run the organisation, while offering students the chance to work on real business briefs. We’re keen to work with other schools and groups on similar projects in future.”
