What can Family Support do for you?
We offer a range of services designed to help patients, carers, family members, children or close friends to cope when a diagnosis of cancer or another life-limiting illness is received. We know that not every family member needs support, and we understand that people need help at different times. Our range of services is designed to be there whenever needed whether that is at diagnosis, during illness or through bereavement.
Services offered include:
Face-to-face support: We provide fully trained active listeners or qualified counsellors to visit you at home or at our day hospice, Grove House.
Telephone support: If you would like to talk to someone over the phone, we can arrange telephone support with a member of our team.
Support for parents and teachers: We can provide information, advice and support for any adults (parents, teachers, grandparents or carers) to manage children and young people's needs whilst facing and dealing with illness and bereavement.
Support for children and young people: We have a trained Children's Support Team who offer support for children and young people through listening and play. We can visit either at home or at school, providing support specific to each child or young person's needs.
Support programmes: Our support programmes are a structured series of sessions which give people an opportunity to engage and come to terms with their grief. The groups are friendly and informative, and are led by trained volunteers and Family Support staff, offering members the opportunity to share their own experiences, speak to each other and the support team.
Community bereavement events: We offer two events each year to come together for reflection in your local community. Our Annual Remembrance Service has been on hold through the pandemic and will be returning next year(2022). Our Light Up A Life event is returning this year and will be taking place at two locations - Princes Risborough in Bucks and Grove House in St Albans.
How do I access Family Support Services?

What does it cost?
All Rennie Grove services are provided at no cost to the patient or their family. As a registered charity, we rely on the generosity of the local community to fund around 85% of our annual running costs, allowing us to care for thousands of patients and families every year.
