Kayleigh’s Story

Kayleigh got in touch about volunteering for Rennie Grove during the first UK lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic. Having worked at Marks and Spencer for eight years as a merchandiser, Kayleigh wanted to put her experience and knowledge to good use while learning a new skill. The recently relaunched eBay shop was the perfect fit for her and the time she had to give.

Kayleigh said: “I knew about Rennie Grove through a friend who is a hospice at home nurse with the charity and I wanted do something rewarding and of value. I was also enthusiastic about the online shopping experience and wanted to find out more.”

Listing anything between seven and ten items per shift, anyone volunteering in this role has the potential to raise over £200 for the charity.

A highlight for Kayleigh has been photographing, researching and listing a vintage, miniature violin. She also listed a Mary Poppins replica umbrella which sold for just over £50. A pair of Jimmy Choo shoes modelled by Kayleigh sold for £300 on Rennie Grove’s recently launched Depop shop.

Kayleigh encourages others who find themselves in her situation to consider volunteering. She said: “If you are between jobs, looking for a career change or just wish to expand your knowledge and skills base I would highly recommend volunteering with the online retail team at Rennie Grove Hospice Care – you can be sure of a warm welcome.”

Rennie Grove Hospice Care is all about making every moment matter for our patients and families. Our Hospice at Home service provides care and support for adults and children diagnosed with a life-limiting illness and their families. It’s important work and, to make it all happen, it needs enthusiastic and committed volunteers.
