About our Children and Young People’s Support service

Our Children and Young People’s Support service helps children and young people through life-changing illness and bereavement. The team works closely with our nurses and play specialists to provide the right support for each child’s individual circumstances.

The service is open to

  • anyone under 18 who is a Rennie Grove Peace patient
  • anyone under 18 whose family member is or was a patient with us

We also offer support and guidance for parents, caregivers and teachers so they can support their charges through illness and bereavement too.

Ways we are able to support children and young people include:

  • Our children’s support group, which provides friendship and play sessions for children and siblings of current and former patients.
  • One-to-one counselling with a registered counsellor to help children and young people talk about their feelings, worries and fears.
  • One-to-one emotional support with an experienced children’s support volunteer to help children and young people express and explore their feelings.
  • Whole family support with a registered counsellor or experienced support volunteer to help parents and caregivers support children affected by life-limiting illness.
  • Guidance for parents, caregivers and teachers on how to support children and young people through illness or bereavement.

Like all Rennie Grove Peace services, our children and young people’s support services are completely free of charge. They’re not means tested and there’s no cost to the patient or their family.

We rely heavily on the generous support of our local community to raise around 85% of our £18.18m total income for the year.  If you would like to make a donation please click on the link below.

Our patients and their families can access our children and young people’s support services at any time during illness or after bereavement.

For patients and families currently under our care, a request can simply be made to any nurse involved in their care.

For former/discharged patients and their families, a request can be made by contacting us as below:
