Fundraising tips to help you get started

If you’re planning to host a fundraising event, there are some things you’ll need to consider in advance. Whether your event will be a one-off fundraiser, an annual fixture, or is part of your fundraising towards a bigger target, you’ll need to:  

• Check with your local council whether you need any special licences.  

For example: 

• a public entertainment licence
• an alcohol licence 

• a licence to allow you to sell food.
• Register any street collections with your local authority – you’ll need a licence for these too. 
• Consider what insurance cover you might need, depending on the type of event you have in mind.

A few tips on promoting your fundraising

Whether you’re hosting an event or running a marathon – you need to shout about it! Your friends, family and colleagues are the perfect people to support you, and they make a great network to help spread the word more widely. So, don’t be embarrassed – get sharing.

Social media

Promote your event on social media. Talk about what you’re planning, share key moments along the way, and feed back to your followers and friends about how it went. Don’t forget to tag Rennie Grove Peace in all your posts.

JustGiving

Check out our guide to setting up a JustGiving page.  JustGiving is an online platform whereby your friends and family can donate to your fundraising event.

Share the link to your JustGiving page every time you post on social media or send a personal email. Ask your friends and family to share with their networks too.

Ask at your work or any clubs you belong to whether you can pin a sponsor form on the noticeboard or pop it on the reception desk. We can help you keep track of your total.
