Firms’ funding boosts Christmas care

Businesses in Bucks and Herts have stumped up more than £50,000 for Rennie Grove’s annual Corporate Christmas Campaign. The funding will pay for vital care through the festive season and into the new year.

Wycombe Wanderers, Chesham-based R Benson, the Window Film Co and Cross Reference from Gerrards Cross are among 35 local businesses backing our appeal.

The money helps provide the funding for overnight care and support from our night nurses. Visits from the night team as needed allows patients to stay at home with their families rather than having to go to hospital.

In December our night team nurses answered 630 calls, driving more than 2,000 miles to visit patients in their homes.

Lynda, one of the night team nurses, said: “Night-time is particularly hard for patients living with a life-limiting illness and for their families. Everyone is incredibly grateful that we are there for them and we in turn are very grateful to local businesses for helping us make a difference in this way.”

Nicola Aquila, our Corporate Partnerships Executive, praised the business sector’s generosity. “The response to this year’s campaign has been particularly remarkable given the tough year many businesses have had.”

The cash boost comes as demand for our services continues to rise.  Hospice at home patient numbers rose by almost 30% over the last year. “We know this trend is continuing, so this type of support is more vital than ever,” Nicola said. “We’d like to thank every business for their generous support.”

Our care is provided at no cost to our patients or their families, but costs more than £8 million a year. That’s £20,000 every day and we rely on the generosity of the local community for 88% of our funding.
