End of year letter from our Chief Executive

Looking back on the year 2020.

End of year letter from our Chief Executive

As I look back and reflect on the most unusual and challenging year, I feel very privileged to be leading a local charity that has managed to continue offering exemplary care and support to patients in our local community with life-limiting illness and their families.

Keeping our hospice at home care going every day and night of the year with the added complications of the pandemic has been a challenge. But knowing that our patients needed us more than ever as other services stopped and the NHS was under immense pressure, made us determined to succeed.

Since lockdown began in March, our hospice at home teams have cared for 2,013 adults and children, carrying out 10,899 home visits and making 58,352 telephone calls to ensure they had the care they needed. Our patients felt safe being at home and have been very grateful for the care we gave, but none of that would have been possible without the incredible support we have received from our local community.

Despite the widespread hardships that this year has brought, local businesses and individuals have stood firm and shown their support in so many ways. Whether it has been donating to our appeals and campaigns, taking on fundraising challenges, participating in our virtual events, shopping with us or volunteering time, this support has never been more valued or more needed.

On behalf of all at Rennie Grove and the families we care for, I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone in the local community who has supported us through these difficult times. Together, I am confident that we can continue to be here to make a difference to the lives of local families in 2021 and beyond.

With best wishes to you all for a very Happy New Year.
