Help us be there for families when time is short and every moment matters

Christmas Appeal Image Bubbles - 06Our nurses feel privileged to enable families to spend quality time together, at home, when time is short and especially precious.

It always feels particularly poignant at Christmas, maybe more so than ever this year after the upheaval and uncertainty we all faced last Christmas.

Could you help more families like Fernando’s spend quality time together? When a patient’s care needs are complex, having access to 24-hour specialist care in their own home can be crucial. Without that level of support, patients nearing end of life are more likely to be admitted to hospital. Separated from their loved ones when time is running out.

Your gift could help prevent the distress of an unnecessary hospital admission and keep families safe, together, at home.

59-year-old father-of-three Fernando was already dealing with a lung condition, diabetes and recovering from a heart attack when he was referred to our Hospice at Home service with two types of incurable lung cancer.

When his specialist told him the cancer was terminal, he just wanted to go home to his family and stay there. He’d had enough of hospitals.

And his family were desperate to get him home too. COVID-19 restrictions meant hospital visits were still limited to one person – and it had to be the same person – for just one hour at a time.

“Thanks to Rennie Grove, we got a week of Dad being in the comfort of his own home. We moved in with him to care for him around the clock. We made him his favourite meals, played his favourite music and films, pampered him, laughed, cried and talked.

“We had some of the most important conversations of our lives that week.
