Spring into action for Rennie Grove

We are calling on ‘green-fingered’ locals to turn their passion for gardening into a fundraiser this spring and summer...

Spring into action for Rennie Grove

Whether it’s opening your garden for a fundraising event or growing extra plants to sell for charity, there are a number of ways to showcase the fruits of your labour while raising money to support local hospice care.

Sue Hobley, our volunteer Head Gardener, says:

“Now we’re officially in spring there’s no better time to think about turning your love of gardening into a fundraiser for Rennie Grove. Last year I grew extra plants in my greenhouse and sold them to raise funds. This worked really well and didn’t take a huge amount of work – just some additional cuttings throughout the year and by spring I had a huge variety of plants to sell, from bedding plants to small shrubs and even some vegetable plants. I sold them for donations to Rennie Grove and raised around £600.

“If you have a garden at home that you lovingly tend to throughout the year, why not show it off when it’s looking its best by hosting an Open Garden for Rennie Grove? If you’re already putting the hard work into your garden, hosting an Open Garden is pretty straightforward. Just pick a date, advertise it locally and maybe bake a few cakes to serve on the day. Or you could ask friends and family to help with that bit, to make it a real team effort.

“I have a whole group of volunteer gardeners who support me in caring for the grounds around Grove House in St Albans. It comes into bloom around June and we often hold an Open Garden when we welcome visitors into the beautiful grounds for tours, tea and cakes, or just to take time to pause and reflect.”

Gemma Ralph, Community Fundraising Manager at Rennie Grove, says:
“As gardens begin to come to life with the return of spring, now is the perfect time to think about hosting a Rennie Grove Open Garden to put your green fingers to good use by raising funds to support local hospice care.”
