We have launched a brand new event this summer – a sponsored walk with a difference. During June, we are inviting families and friends to plan their own personal walk along a route that holds special meaning for them, creating a unique memorial and celebration of a loved one’s life while raising funds for local hospice care.
Gemma Ralph, Senior Community Fundraiser for Rennie Grove, explains: “Reconnecting with the people we care about feels more poignant than ever this year. Separated from our families and friends for so long – unable to say goodbye to those we love in the way we want to – the past year has been tough.
“We hope that Miles in Memory will give people the chance to reconnect with loved ones as they celebrate and remember the life of someone special together.”
Your chosen route can be as short or long as you like and you can walk it at any time of the day (or night) during June. It might take you into town or countryside at twilight, sunrise over the sea, or a brunch stop at a favourite café. Anything that reminds you of your loved one and holds special meaning and memories for you and your walking companions.
We have researched and reviewed local walks in the areas where its nurses provide care in patients’ homes. Its website suggests stunning routes, including through Heartwood Forest, with peaceful places to pause and reflect.
Entry costs £15, which includes your event information pack, an event t-shirt and wildflower seeds, specially chosen to attract butterflies.
Gemma adds: “We’ve chosen butterflies, beautiful symbols of life, hope and change, as the emblem for this new event. Why not plant your seeds in memory of someone special, and please consider making a donation or raising sponsorship in their memory too. Their legacy will live on and more local families will get the specialist care they need to stay at home.”
