Make Your Will Month is almost here

Throughout June, a selection of local solicitors will be waiving their basic will-writing fees in lieu of a donation to Rennie Grove Hospice Care as part of the charity’s Make Your Will Month campaign.

Make Your Will Month 2021

Tracey Hancock, our Director of Fundraising, explains: “Your Will is one of the most important documents you’ll ever create. It ensures that all your assets and possessions can be distributed as you wish. If you die without a Will, the Government decides who gets what. A Will brings peace of mind and security for you and your loved ones.”

Local solicitors who have signed up to the campaign will offer their expertise in making or updating a standard Will in return for a donation to support our services. If your circumstances are more complicated, your chosen solicitor will agree any additional fees in advance.

“We suggest a minimum donation of £175 for a single Will or £275 for a pair of mirror Wills*,” says Tracey. “That represents a reduction on solicitors’ usual fees, and means the donation you make will be helping us to care for other families, while you’re taking care of yours.”

In addition to supporting local hospice care by making or updating your Will with our partner solicitors during June, you can also ask how to leave a gift in your Will to the charity if you wish to.

Tracey explains, “One in three of our hospice at home nurses has been funded by gifts in Wills, so you can see the far-reaching impact a legacy can have for so many families in your local community.”

Ursula Hilborne decided to split her estate between two hospice charities, one of which was Rennie Grove. The hospice at home nurses had looked after a friend of hers and the impact and importance of that care to Ursula is reflected in her generous bequest.

“I think the gift in her Will was her way of saying thank you,” says Alex, a close family friend to whom Ursula entrusted the role of executor. “Ursula wanted to be sure her bequests would make a real difference to the local communities she cared about.”
