The One Million Steps Challenge sets out a goal of one million steps to be completed over several days of walking. It all adds up to roughly 500 miles, that’s almost 20 marathons.
Barbara embarked on her One Million Steps challenge to raise money for Rennie Grove Hospice Care. She planned to walk 5 miles a day every day from 15 June to 22 September.
“What was I thinking?” said Barbara.
“I was thinking that I could perhaps, at the same time, raise some much needed funds for Rennie Grove Hospice Care, who like so many charities at this time are unable to hold regular fundraising events and indeed still are.
“Thanks to so many kind and generous donations from my family, friends, fellow volunteers and neighbours I was delighted to raise £2,000 for the charity.”
Barbara acknowledges that the challenge was a huge commitment. It’s a great opportunity to stay fit, enjoy the outdoors, and set yourself a goal.
“I feel so much fitter than before I started it and have enjoyed so many different walks in the local area.
“It’s surprising how very quickly I found that I was able to walk more than 10,000 steps each day. In fact I reached the million steps target on day 78 and by the last day of the challenge I had walked 638 miles!
“I walked in all weathers, sometimes extreme heat and torrential rain, and at different times of the day to fit in with my work schedule. I walked on my own and with friends.
“If anyone is thinking about taking part in this challenge, I would encourage them to do so. I think, like me, you will feel a great sense of personal achievement and satisfaction at the end of the challenge, and whatever amount you can raise for this amazing charity will be so appreciated.”
The One Million Steps Challenge gives you the opportunity to stay active during the winter, and to help Rennie Grove Hospice Care raise much needed funds over this difficult period. Every penny you raise will help Rennie Grove provide care and support for local people.
